Julie Green

Los Angeles, CA

Born in Oakland, California, in 1969, Julie Green grew up surrounded by Bay Area Artists. With family ties to Ruth Asawa, having Jack Welpott as a mentor, and briefly assisting David Ireland, Green was immersed in the world of fine art from a very early age. She studied fine art photography at the San Francisco Art Academy and earned a BFA from San Francisco State University in 1991. While she lived in San Francisco, Green worked as a rock photographer, and as an assistant at Show and Tell Gallery, all while being the lead singer of the all girl band Cameltoe. Moving to Los Angeles in 1999, Green built a career in music and entertainment photography, while fronting the pop-punk band The Checkers. From 2005–2025, Julie Green was Head of Reproductions for the late, great artist David Hockney. She now creates work in her Lincoln Heights studio in Los Angeles, drawing on a lifetime of artistic and musical experiences.
